“Three different time I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” 2 Corinthians 12:8-9, NLT
The Weakness of Grief
It doesn’t take long for weakness and weariness to move in to the grieving heart. It permeates every part of your body, mind, and spirit. Life forces to you keep moving forward on a path you don’t want, making decisions with options that are not appealing, and pretending to have strength that simply isn’t there.
In the weakness of grief, there is strength–even when you don’t recognize it. In your weakness, God’s power and strength show up in miraculous ways.
God’s Power in the Weakness of Grief
It goes against our natural bend to think that anything good can come from our weaknesses. God clearly states that our weakness is the fertile soil that makes His power work best. If we can grasp this and cling to the hope that this provides, we can be like Paul and rejoice in our weaknesses.
If you grief has brought you to a place of weakness, ask God to help you see His power rising up in you and in your circumstances. Ask Him also to help you embrace your weaknesses as an avenue for His strength and power to move and work in your life. Then you can rejoice in the truth that Paul understood: “When I am weak, then I am strong.”
Dear God, Help me not run from my weaknesses, but instead trust you to work powerfully through them. The weakness of grief leaves me weary. Please minister to my weariness and help me cling to Your strength and power. I am not happy about being so weak and feeling as if I have no control, but I know You are still in control. I trust you to show up in my weaknesses and pour out your power and strength. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
